Each year, many individuals start their own businesses, driven by opportunities in the market or a desire for independence. There is nothing wrong with that, of course. In some cases, however, the motivation is different: someone aspires to use their entrepreneurial talents as a means to create positive change. This is known as ‘social entrepreneurship’.

A social enterprise is a company with a social mission. Like any other company, it supplies a product or service and has a revenue model. However, in a social enterprise, making money is not the main goal. It is a means to create social value. Social enterprises exist in all sectors of business and create social value for people and the environment.
